Nokia N82 Housing Replacement Process - July 22, 2008
This is probably a good time to talk about Nokia N82 housings/casings, since the phone’s been released for over half a year. If you haven’t been taking proper care of your phone, including but not limited to throwing it around carelessly, dropping it on concrete pavements, or even simply putting it in the same pocket with your keys and coins, you would probably have your fair share of scratches and dents in your phone.
There’s 2 options you have if you want to change your housing to get a brand new Nokia N82 (on the ouside): either at the Nokia Care Centre or 3rd party vendor. Obviously this also gives you 2 options when you change your housing – you can opt for an expensive housing changing service, at no cost to your warranty, or you can opt to get it changed from a 3rd party, which WILL void your warranty.
So lets take a look at the cost of each. At Nokia’s Care Centre it costs round about HK$600 – HK$700 (according to a Nokia rep the last time I went there, which was in June) to get all the various parts as well as the service fee. On the other hand, you can go to a 3rd party (shady stores in malls which sell these sort of thing) for a brand new casing. The total cost of the housing and service charge is less than HK$300 at a store I’ve been to, including a free change back to your original casing if your phone does break down and you have to bring it back to Nokia.
It’s definitely much cheaper to get a new exterior from 3rd parties but it’s also a bit more tedious in that you’ve got to change back to the original housing to honour your warranty from Nokia. On the other hand if you’ve got cash to burn feel free to get it done from Nokia, where they can make a big profit from changing your phone’s housing.
Alternatively, if you’re feeling confident of your abilities, you can purchase a housing online. I’m not advocating that you should do this on your own, as it is a delicate process, so proceed at your own caution.
So that’s the N82 housing-job explained. Any questions?
