When the N82 was in it’s proto stages, testers commented on various aspects of the phone – including this new feature dubbed “the Navi Wheel”. Incidentally the Navi Wheel is also a feature on the other Nokia N series phone released during the same time – the Nokia N81.

Today I had to make a stop at the local Nokia Care center because I had a rather annoying problem. Everytime I clicked on the WLAN shortcut on the N82 standby screen – the one which allows you to switch WLAN on and off – the phone would be stuck in a loop of “System Error” prompts, which would only stop if you pulled the battery out from the phone.
Turns out that this is just one of the few bugs that most users would experience if they updated their N82 firmware to v20.0.062. The Nokia Care representative said that a firmware update to solve this issue is ‘in the works’, but again who knows when Nokia will release an update?

Skype has just released their long awaited client for VoIP services for normal mobile phones as a beta software earlier today. It’s available for a range of Nokia phones, and since it’s something new I decided to take a first look at this Skype client on my Nokia N82 and see if it really lives up to our expectations.
The application is coded in Java, so don’t expect really spectacular speeds from the software. Not that I’m against Java or anything, but for the time being it’s just not as nifty compared to native C++ coded applications.

I’ve decided to start a weekly game review of N-Gage games (and perhaps occasionally games not on the N-Gage platform, if they’re really great) as a platform for the N-series users to share great games. Echoing some of the problems of my last post regarding restoration of your N82 back to its original settings, here’s an issue most of us will probably have: having the trial, pre-release N-Gage and the new, full version N-Gage sitting side by side in the Applications folder. Furthermore, the full version N-Gage now doesn’t appear to work.
This issue can be tackled by uninstalling N-Gage from your phone using the Application Manager.

This clip on YouTube illustrates a very interesting idea – not to mention a very clever use of the camera too!
I think there’s quite a potential for this sort of control. For example, specific hand gestures could be programmed to trigger actions on the phone, such as quick dialing, receiving or hanging up calls, or even for the music player. I’m not sure how far this would go or whether the application is for release yet, but I’m definitely interested in seeing how far the idea would go.
